Description:
A manifest train works its way east towards Kelso after having just passed a westbound at Kerens. This area is known as the Devil's Playground. It is a natural bowl where winds from all directions trap ever shifting sands. The railroad has planted the rows of Tamarisk Trees on either side of the right of way to help mitigate the problems of sands covering the ballast, ties and rails.
