Saugus Line Freights

This is a list of freight trains that run on the old SP Saugus Line, now the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line. Some hold to more of a schedule than others. At the date of writing this is accurate. It should be noted that these will change with time, and other trains do show up from time to time.

ILBSE Intermodal ICTF (Long Beach), CA Seattle, WA Tue, Fri
This train runs from Long Beach, CA to Seattle, WA, moving mostly marine containers. It also does a setout and pickup in Oakland, CA. This train typically runs on Tuesdays and Fridays. It had been getting on the Saugus Line after the morning Metrolink commute rush, some time in the late morning, but more recently has been getting on the Saugus Line in the late afternoon or early evening.
ZBRLC Priority Intermodal Brooklyn Yard (Portland), OR LATC (Los Angels), CA Mon-Sun
Southbound Brooklyn Z train. Made up of a mix of trailers and containers, with all power on the head end. It usually passes through Palmdale Jct. between 0400 and 1000 in the morning. Currently it is normally routed over the Palmdale cutoff, though on occasion it can still take the Saugus Line.
ZLCBR Priority Intermodal LATC (Los Angels), CA Brooklyn Yard (Portland), OR Mon-Sun
Northbound Brooklyn Z train. Made up of a mix of trailers and containers, with all power on the head end. It usually departs LATC around midnight. Currently it is usually routed over the Palmdale cutoff, though on occasion it can still take the Saugus Line.
ZLCBRB Priority Intermodal (Second Section) LATC (Los Angels), CA Brooklyn Yard (Portland), OR As needed
Second Section of the northbound Brooklyn Z train. When this train is run it takes the place of the ZLCLT for the day, following its schedule. This train will have a section of trailers and containers up front for Portland, and a section of double stack containers which will be set out in Lathrop along with the DPU units.
ZLCLT Priority Intermodal LATC (Los Angels), CA Lathrop, CA Mon-Sun
Northbound Golden State Z train. This train runs with several engines on the point, and a single DPU on the rear. The train is made up of a mix of domestic containers. It will usually depart LATC some time in the early afternoon, passing through Burbank Jct., between 1300 and 1500. When the ZLCBRB runs it replaces this train. Note: I need to check in on the days this runs again as it may have changed. This entry will be updated pending new info.
ZLTLC Priority Intermodal Lathrop, CA LATC (Los Angels), CA Mon-Sun
Southbound Golden State Z train. This train runs with several engines on the point, and a single DPU on the rear. The train is made up of a mix of domestic containers. It will usually depart Palmdale Jct., between 1800 and 2200 depending on how long its trip from Lathrop was. Note: I need to check in on the days this runs again as it may have changed. This entry will be updated pending new info.
RVUVU Rock Vulcan Pit (Little Rock), CA Vulcan Pit (Little Rock), CA Mon-Sun
Vulcan Rock Train. Train is usually made up of two GEs followed by a set of Rock hoppers, with two more GEs on the rear. Runs from the Vulcan Pit to Palmdale, where the crew changes ends, and runs it down the Saugus Line to Sun Valley. Once the train is unloaded it will run back up the Saugus Line to Palmdale Jct, the crew will again change ends and run it back to Little Rock. This daily cycle usually starts between 2200 and 2300, and finished up between 0600 and 0900. On Sundays the run will often (but not always) be made during the day with a mid morning start, and a mid to late afternoon end. It should be noted that this train can take a hiatus for weeks at a time depending on demand for rock.

Local Gemco Yard (Van Nuys), CA Gemco Yard (Van Nuys), CA Mon-Fri
From Gemco shoves south to Burbank Jct., then heads up the Saugus line. Switches industries north of Burbank Jct., with the CP Lang being the northern most limit. Usually departs Gemco around 0700, and usually returns by 1300-1500. Usually runs with a caboose (used as a shoving platform for the long shove from Gemco to Burbank Jct.).
